Money for Legendary Skier Shane McConkey's
Family
Lewis Center, OH-Oct. 18th, 2009 -
Aspen Ski and Board in Lewis Center, OH held a
charity raffle that culminated on October 17th
in a celebration of the life and accomplishments
of skier Shane McConkey, who passed away last
March in a ski BASE jumping accident. McConkey
was 39 years old and considered one of the most
influential figures in the skiing world. The
event was attended by company staff, ski
industry representatives, fans, and customers of
the shop. " To have this kind of turn out and
raise what we did for the benefit of Shane's
family, it has been a very successful night, "
said Gil Harris, owner of Aspen Ski and Board.
The drawing was held at nearby Local Roots in
Powell, OH where attendees paid tribute to one
of the most prolific skiers in history. The
prizes-which included a K2 Shane McConkey
tribute ski-were raffled off early in the night
in front of the eager crowd. "This night just
goes to show that Shane touched even the lives of
people from the other side of the country. This
was an awesome experience, "said winner Kurt
Donnell.
