Team of six from Beavercreek, Oh
Completes the Legendary Haute Route
Aspen Ski and Board helped a team of six skiers from Beavercreek, Ohio to achieve their goal of completing the legendary Haute Route through the Alps in March, 2011.
The Haute Route is a journey through the highest part of the Alps, beginning in Chamonix, France (Mt. Blanc) and ending past the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. Special ski touring (Randonee) bindings and boots are used on regular alpine skis. The bindings are engineering marvels that convert from free-heel mode for climbing to lock-in mode for regular skiing on descents. Scaled climbing skins are attached to the ski bottoms to provide traction during the ascents. Some technical climbing with crampons and ropes are required to get over the cols (high passes) when crossing between glacial valleys.
The route covers 120 km and is done over 6 days. Nights are spent in a series of historic, high-mountain huts which dot the route, and which are supplied by helicopter through the spring ski season. Bedding is provided, and the kitchens provide wonderful meals. Average elevation along the route is around 10,000 ft., with the highest (standing) point on the summit of the Pigne d’Arolla at 12,454 ft. The Beavercreek group climbed a cumulative total of 14,141 ft. in route, and skied fresh tracks down 23,933 ft. (through some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth.)
Less than 50% of tour groups complete the Haute Route, with weather being a big factor. The weather cooperated for the Beavercreek team, with many spectacularly clear days, and two years of planning and a year of training helped contribute to their success. Chad LeBeau at ASBCO helped outfit the team. They chose Elan Apex skis for their extreme light weight when climbing and their all-mountain versatility on descents.
Below are some pictures of their journey:

2011/ 2012 Women's Rossignol S7 and Men's Rossignol S7

Pictured above is the new 2011/2012 Women and Mens Rossignol S7. Fresh from the powder-hounds at Rossignol, the S7 skis demand deep snow. Here are some details about the ski:
- Poplar wood core creates a light and lively ski with excellent ski-to-snow feel and superb damping characteristics
- Rossignol womens and men S7. The women's S7 dimensions are 140-110-118, and the men's is 145-115-123
- Features resilient carbon and Kevlar materials woven into the core
- Weight Reduction System aligns core fibers with the ski's sidecut shape, placing more fibers underfoot and fewer in the tip and tail
- Fewer fibers in the tip and tail significantly reduces the weight, improving balance, rotation and swing weight
- Greater fiber concentration underfoot improves stability for more snap on takeoffs and landings
- Rossignol S7 skis combine an early rise in the tip and tail with a standard camber underfoot for unsurpassed flotation in deep powder and responsive grip on hardpack
- Reverse sidecut at the spatula-shaped tip and pin tail enhances deep-snow performance; standard sidecut underfoot helps you navigate back to the lift
- Visco elastomer in the tip and tail absorbs shocks and resists excessive flexing
- ABS sidewalls are angled 30° to improve swing weight, reduce overall weight and enhance edging and durability
- Directional twin-tip profile excels when going forward and lets you land jumps and ride backward

Union- is 100% devoted to making the best bindings on the planet—we live,
eat, and breathe it. And every part of the process, from discovering new
materials to CNC machining a new baseplate, is done in-house with zero
outsourcing. Every single piece of a Union binding is therefore completely
exclusive to Union— you can’t find it anywhere else.
Electric- is a premium sunglass, snow goggle, and accessories company that has been rocking since 2000. ELECTRIC is defined by its iconic volt logo and has deep roots in action sports, music and fashion. Founded in San Clemente, CA in January 2000 by Kip Arnette, Bruce Beach, and Mike Carter. Building a brand that they could be proud of and having fun was their original mission. ELECTRIC officially launched its products at the SIA snow show in Las Vegas in March of 2000 with the ELECTRIC volt logo on hats, t-shirts, and stickers. Over the last decade ELECTRIC has produced some of the most unique and innovative designs in the sunglass market. ELECTRIC’s high voltage sunglass styles are team inspired and reflect the attitude and personalities of today’s youth culture. ELECTRIC snow goggles are world-renowned for their high level of quality and unmatched performance in the snow.
Volcom- is a modern lifestyle brand that embodies the creative spirit of youth culture. The company was founded on liberation, innovation and experimentation while remaining dedicated to the breakdown of established traditions. Volcom’s avant-garde approach to clothing and branding has set it apart in the action sports industry and beyond. The goal of Volcom is to provide clothing to people who share our passion for art, music, film, skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding and motocross. The are focused on supporting athletes, artists and musicians – providing a means for creative individuals to come together and collectively express themselves.
Airblaster- is a small company located in Portland OR, Bend OR, Lake Tahoe CA, LA, Vancouver WA and a sketchy RV somewhere on the roads of the great USA. They produce a line of product for the sport of Snowboarding. Their product is designed by snowboarders for snowboarders. Each item is tested and perfected to perform perfect. They love the sport and they want to make sure that each and every customer has the best time they can on the mountain.
Trew Clothing- Their outerwear is designed to withstand the most demanding days in the mountains: the long and slow skin in the backcountry, high-speed, powder-panic fueled boot-packs out the gate, cold days and fast laps in the resort, and 2am Volcano slaying missions in the Cascades. They design our gear to perform in the mountains when you need it, where you need it; so nothing gets in between you and the line you want to shred. To ensure this they rigorously test quality during every stage of product development. They work closely with our manufacturer in China during development and production to assure high quality and consistent workmanship on all of our garments. In their experience, low quality and high quality manufacturing exists in every country, and thus they extend the extra effort to ensure that their manufacturer stays consistent with their high standards.
Arcteryx- Named for ARCHAEOPTERYX LITHOGRAPHICA, the first reptile to develop the feather for flight, freeing itself from the constraints of the horizontal world. Arcteryx is a Canadian company, and all of their product design, R&D, and production development is done in-house at our head office in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They are unusual in the outdoor softgoods industry; they choose to design, perform their own patternmaking and develop all of their products in-house, and they have their own 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Vancouver. This allows them to readily explore unorthodox design concepts and gives them complete control over the development of new products. As more North American brands move their design and production overseas, Arc'teryx remains a member of an ever-shrinking group of manufacturers that employs a full complement of vertically-capable in-house designers and product developers.
Candygrind- was born from necessity. As riders who spent nearly every day on the snow, they struggled to find products that met their needs. So they started making their own. After snowboarding with friends by day, they designed products in their own living room by night. In 2007, they transformed their sketches into a small line of apparel. Friends and fellow riders soon turned to them for products driven by purpose and design. Through the years, their focus has expanded to better meet the needs of a riders lifestyle. They no longer hibernate when the snow melts, but instead offer products for every season. And each of these products tells a story. It's a story lived with friends and shaped by cookouts, skate sessions, and chairlift conversations. Yet the story is not just theirs—it's one the share with others committed to living creatively. They no longer store fabric samples next to their cereal, but they haven't forgotten our roots. They will always be committed to crafting excellent products.
Jupa- Since 1983 Jupa has offered a large range of technical products of superior quality. Designed for Fall and Winter activities, Jupa clothing provides you with protection against cold, wind and rain to keep you warm and dry. Their garments are safe and all fabrics are washable and tested for durability. Their designs are inspired by the latest trends and youth lifestyles, with energetic, fresh and colorful styles to suit the tastes of kids, teenagers and, of course parents.
Sorel- At Sorel, they make footwear that is honest, uncomplicated, and unpretentious. They believe that form follows function, and that the result is often quite beautiful. Since 1962, they’ve put craftsmanship first in the pursuit of making products that last. They believe that when your feet are taken care of, you can be more spontaneous, and that your boots should last as long as the experiences you have in them. They believe in being effortlessly outdoors no matter what the elements.
